"We learn until we understand it!"
I am going to tell you about how the IPad has been used in my Biology class this year. Mr. Mugan, my biology teacher, believes in independent learning. So, rather than lecturing us everyday, he allows us time to figure things out and learn at our own pace on a website. This website is http://www.mugansbiologypage.com. We access this website through the Safari app on our iPads.
This website works quite well. Every couple days there is a new stage quiz bookmarked on the date of the calendar. Students click on the bookmark and it opens a new tab that has several different learning tools. There are videos, other websites, and even lessons Mr. Mugan recorded. With these different sources we can learn however we want. This website allows us to research as in depth as we want and as quickly as we want. We learn at our own pace until we understand it.
Once we understand the topic we take a stage quiz, which is how Mr. Mugan keeps track of how we are doing, what we are understanding, and what we are having trouble grasping. I think this way of feedback is very affective. Mr. Mugan is able to see who is actually doing the stage quizzes, as well, and can work with the kids that are needing some extra help. This website Mr. Mugan created has been a very useful tool in class for the students and teacher.
