I learned about a great app called Layar at the 1:1 technology conference at the AEA. This app must involve a printed picture of something. The teacher creates a Layar campaign using the app and attaches it to the picture. Then students can scan the picture, or hover over it using the app, to find the information that the teacher has left for them. The teacher could use the cover of a book as the picture and attach a short interest-catching summary of the book, a meet the author website, a list of important vocabulary words and their meanings, a comprehension quiz, or anything else that connects to the story.
Teachers could scan a picture of a math worksheet and attach a video explaining and demonstrating how to solve the problems. To make it an independent activity, the teacher could have the answer key attached to allow the students to check their own work and find their own mistakes.
The ideas are endless! This would be a great project to create on a snow-day.
