First came computers. Then touch screen tablets. Now, you can control your mobile device using your eyes.
The Eye Tribe company has been producing software that allows a user to control apps and websites simply using his or her eyes. The software can be used for eye-controlled login, gaming, and yes, even to slice fruits in Fruit Ninja.
The Eye Tribe company was founded about four years ago by Sune Alstrup Johansen (CEO), Javier San Agustin, Martin Tall, and Henrik Skovsgaard. However, this story began even earlier. In 2007, the four men began working on creating an eye tracking software at the IT University of Copenhagen, where they were each involved with their Phd studies. They wanted the software to be available and affordable for households but to include the accuracy and precision of a high-end, expensive eye tracking device. The four men had the ultimate goal of making this software especially available at a cheap cost to those with motion disabilities. By 2009, ITU Gaze Tracker was born and in the world, has become the most downloaded open source eye tracker software. In June 2011, the four founders joined the Startup Weekend Mobile in Copenhagen, in an effort to make their software more available. By the end of the weekend, the four men produced a prototype named Senseye, and the Eye Tribe company was born. The company now has sixteen full time employees and has even introduced the company in Silicon Valley. The Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation has even helped in co-founding a 4.4 million dollar (US) project. In April 2013, the company displayed the world’s first Android tablet with eye tracking capabilities.

The eye tracking device is available on their website for only $99. At this stage, the product works for Windows/OSX, and Android (check out their website for specifications).
The company’s story to success is powerful and is a true eye-opener in the field of technology. At this rate, perhaps using this technology will become the norm in the next five years.
