If only we could control objects without actually touching them. Wouldn’t life be ten times simplified?
Leap Motion has done just this by creating a product for a normal computer. The Leap Motion controller is small and sleek, allowing you to control your computer simply using the movements of your hands and fingers. You can sign papers, scroll through articles, and zoom in on images without smudging your screen on a touch screen computer or without having to touch your keyboard!
In 2008, the technology for Leap Motion was first developed. At this time, co-founder David Holz had been studying for a PhD in mathematics. By 2010, Holz and his childhood friend, Michael Buckwald, co-founded the Leap Motion company after an angel investment was given.
By October 2012, Leap Motion released a program for software development, distributing the program to developers wanting to create applications for the product. The first Leap Motion device was set to be launched in May 2013. Developers received a new version of the software in May 2014.
As reported in TechCrunch, about 500,000 units of the product were sold when it was first launched. Unfortunately, this number fell very short of expectations. As a result, ten percent of the Leap Motion workforce faced layoffs (including jobs in marketing and sales).

Leap Motion partnered with ASUS to produce high-end notebooks with the technology by the end of 2013. The company has even partnered with Hewlett Packard, and in December 2013, it was announced that in eleven HP devices, the Leap Motion technology would be embedded. Retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy have also formed partnerships with Leap Motion.
With a product this good, who wouldn’t want to buy it? All you simply have to do is connect the device to your computer’s USB port. Done! This device is easy to hold and works with your computer’s keyboard and mouse, instead of replacing them.
