"The media center's website has been completely redesigned
using Weebly . . . Many W-SR teachers report Weebly as their preferred web creation tool."
The W-SR High School's library has gone through a tremendous makeover. Both Mrs. Duffy and Mrs. Chopard have spent time over the summer to make the library a better atmosphere for students. The walls have been re-painted, shelves have been relocated, tables have been moved, and furniture has been added. The library definitely looks more spacious and is very inviting.
One major plus-point for busy students is that books needing to be checked-out quickly for different classes are now within easy access. The shelves for these books have been moved to the front of the library, next to the check-out desk. Leisure reading novels have their own section in the back, with plenty of space to settle down and read comfortably. If you need to make a quick dash to class, you will have an easier time finding all the non-fictions books and textbooks. When I asked Mrs. Chopard about the renovation, she said that the changes were made to accommodate quiet time and independent study classes. All the books in the library were sorted out to accommodate students' needs for their classes, and the students will have an easier time finding the exact resources they need.
Adding on to the makeover process, the media center's website has been completely redesigned using Weebly, which is an online service that allows people to make up to two free websites per account. Many W-SR teachers report Weebly as their preferred web creation tool.
The library's site format includes upcoming events and a suggestion box on the home page with other tabs leading to links about the library (staff and policies), a link to the library catalog Destiny Quest, lists of popular teen novels, information about the media center's book club, important online resources, and research guides for class.
Mrs. Chopard has redesigned this site. She said that it was fun to create, is easy to use, and is visually appealing. Using Weebly, Mrs. Chopard was able to embed the link for her blog site on the home page as well, rather than having a separate link to the blog site.
A fun addition coming to the library is the new Whisper Café, which opens on Monday, August 26th at 7:30 AM. This café has been introduced to create a more inviting atmosphere, more student traffic in the library, and to promote a space for leisure reading. The money collected from the café is being used for the library in many ways: to improve its appearance (paint, furniture, etc.), for the students to use more print and online resources, for better programming, and possibly for any author or speaker visits.
At school, if you ever have any free time and want to spend some time finding and reading a good book, be sure to check out the W-SR High School library! Please be sure to thank Mrs. Duffy and Mrs. Chopard for their hard work over the summer to make the W-SR High School library and website a more fun atmosphere for students!
