Description: Khan Academy is an online site with YouTube videos that cover most subjects taught in the average K-12 classroom and some college classes, ranging from algebra to economy to organic chemistry. It can be integrated into the classroom by being used to supplement the classroom material and can help students understand topics via the easy-to-follow tutorials created by the Khan Academy team. Students can also track their progress by signing into Khan Academy using Facebook or Google accounts. Khan Academy has an app that allows students to view videos and log into their accounts. There is an option to view videos in web browsers such as Safari. It should be noted that the app does not contain the website’s interactive math lessons, though this can be easily solved by using the website. Classroom Idea: Teachers can use video lessons provided by Khan Academy to teach specific concepts or to supplement the material already taught by the teacher. Khan Academy was initially a math channel, so much of the teaching tools still center around math. In the app, there are lessons for everything from algebra to calculus. However, at this time, math practice games by Khan Academy are accessible only through a web browser. Recommended by: Sabah Munir, HS Tech Team Member |
